Microsoft updates Outlook 2016 for Mac with top requested features
Maybe it’s company policy, maybe you just don’t like to do email through a web browser, or maybe you don't want to waste your Office 365 subscription. Whichever’s the case, if you use Outlook 2016 on a Mac, the Microsoft Office team is adding several highly requested features to the software.
Here’s a quick rundown:
Send Later - This is easy to understand: you can now write an email and schedule it to be sent automatically at a later time. This feature is now available to Office Insider Fast users with on version 15.36 (170606); Office 365 subscribers will get it in July on version 15.35 (170610).
Read and delivery receipts - Again, this does exactly what it says on the tin. A delivery receipt lets you know that the message has been successfully delivered, while a read receipt confirms it has been opened.
Email templates - You can compose and save a message as a template and then reuse it anytime later.
Create calendar events and tasks from email - You can now drag and drop emails directly to your calendar to create an event. The subject of the email becomes the calendar subject, and the body of the email goes in the notes field. If it’s more of a todo than an event, you can drop the email to the task view to create a new task.
Other than the Send Later features, the aforementioned improvements are available to Office 365 users on version 15.35 (170610). And for what it’s worth, since version 15.34 (170515), you no longer need to know details about the type of account you’ve when adding a new account in Outlook: just enter your email address and Outlook will auto-detect the settings and guide you through the process.
