Microsoft Selfie app crosses 500,000 downloads; now compatible with selfie stick

Remember that Microsoft Selfie app I talked about earlier this month? A selfie and portrait enhancement app - if you haven’t figured that out from its name - it’s arguably one of the better iOS apps Microsoft has put out in recent memory. And while the app looks simple, the science behind it isn’t. For those interested, you can read about the Face technologies, Digital Face Clean, and Burst Images De-noising techniques used in the app in this Inside Microsoft Research blog post.

Users seem to really like the app, too. According to Microsoft, it has been downloaded more than half a million times within 2 weeks of its release.

The Microsoft’s Beijing-based team that created the app is on the ball, too, and is improving the app as fast as it could. A recent update that bumped the version number to 2.0 brought a more polished UI (and a new app icon that I don’t like), better sharing, and a crash fix. And today’s update brought selfie stick compatibility (!).

Here’s the link to the Microsoft Selfie app on the Apple App Store. Try it, it’s free.
