Microsoft Rolls Out Office Mobile for iPhone

After months of speculation, the wait is over; Microsoft has today released Office Mobile for the iPhone.

Although the app is a free download from the Apple App Store, you would need an Office 365 subscription (any plan that includes the full Office desktop apps, including Office 365 trial subscriptions) in order to use it. Compatible with the iPhone 4, 4S, 5, 5th-gen iPod Touch (sorry, iPad owners, unless you don't mind running a scaled up iPhone app), and requiring iOS 6.1 or later, the Microsoft Office Mobile allows you to access, view, and edit your Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents from anywhere, even those stored on SkyDrive, SkyDrive Pro, or SharePoint. Formatting and content remains unscathed when you make quick edits or add comments to a document. It also features support for charts, animations, SmartArt graphics, and shapes. Essentially, what you're getting is the same functionality as Office Mobile on Windows Phone.

A one-year Office 365 Home Premium subscription costs S$129.99, or S$12.99 per month. It's also available as an in-app purchase within the Office Mobile app. For students, faculty, and staff in institutions of higher learning, Microsoft has a four-year Office 365 University plan that's priced at S$99.99.

Office Mobile for Office 365 subscribers is now available in the U.S. App Store, and will appear in App Stores in other countries in the next four to five days. If you can't find it on the Singapore App Store, check back again later.

The Microsoft Office team has posted two videos, and we've embedded them below. An FAQ can be found here.
