Microsoft Reportedly Killing the Zune

We can't say we haven't seen this coming but, it seems that the Zune has reached the end of the road. There are reports that Microsoft will not be manufacturing any more Zune media players; instead the company will focus on delivering the Zune experience through software on mobile phones running Windows Phone 7. While the Zune couldn't beat the iPod in terms of sales, its interface was a refreshing change from Apple's and its music subscription service has its own loyal fans.

Bloomberg - The company will concentrate on putting Zune software onto mobile phones such as those running Microsoft’s Windows operating system, said the person, who declined to be identified because the decision hasn’t been announced. Zune software lets customers buy songs and movies, as well as pay a monthly fee to stream unlimited music.
