Microsoft renames Fall Creators Update to Autumn Creators Update in some regions (Update: It's a "mistranslation")

Microsoft renames Fall Creators Update to Autumn Creators Update in some regions, which still doesn’t make sense

Update, July 20:

According to Ars Technica, Microsoft has reached out to clarify the naming kerfuffle. Turns out, this is a "mistranslation" and the name of the next Windows 10 update is still called "Fall Creators Update". The same name will be used "everywhere".

A English to English translation error, huh? Nice try.

Slated to be released in September, the next major Windows 10 update (after the Creators Update earlier this year) is called the Fall Creators Update. It’s not a very creative name, but OK, whatever.

Turns out, Microsoft kind of regretted its choice of name for the update, because - surprise! - fall in the U.S. isn’t fall everywhere else in the world. And as noted by Windows Central, Microsoft is now calling the update ”Autumn Creators Update” in the UK.

This name change applies to other countries too, including India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia, and Singapore. Now I can’t say for the others, but I distinctly remember Singapore has no four seasons, much less autumn. Singapore is tropical in nature, and if anything, we experience another type of seasons: monsoon seasons. I don’t think Microsoft is going to rename it to “Southwest Monsoon Creators Update” just for us though.

That said, I don’t think this name change would affect us much. Since there’s no four seasons here, this is all but just another product name. But you can imagine the confusion in countries that do experience seasons. For example, when the Autumn Creators Update launches in September in Australia, it’s actually spring time there.

Oops.
