Are you on Windows 7 and itching to try out Internet Explorer 11 that comes part of the Windows 8.1 public preview? Well, Microsoft has recently released a developer preview of IE11 for Windows 7. Available for both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows 7, the software can be downloaded here.

According to Microsoft, IE11's JavaScript performance on Windows 7 is 4% faster than IE10 and about 30% faster than its nearest competitor, Chrome. Other goodies of the IE11 that will be released with Windows 8.1 are also present in the Windows 7 version, such as JPEG decoding by the GPU, W3C Resource Priorities spec, support for HTML5 link pre-fetching and pre-rendering, WebGL, and the new F12 developer tools. But there are differences too. According to ZDNet, for example, it can’t open up to 100 tabs per window, and doesn’t support premium video extensions, Google’s SPDY networking protocol, and Enhanced Protected Mode security measures. Last but not least, the modern.IE site is also updated, and now comes with a new cross-browser Web site screenshot service and new virtual machine images.

Microsoft has a video that shows some of the performance, Web programming, and developer tools capabilities in IE11 developer preview for Windows 7, and we've embedded it below.
