Microsoft offers temporary workaround for Windows 10 Anniversary Update freezing issue

Is your Windows 10 PC ‘freezing’ after installing the Windows 10 Anniversary Update? Well, you’re not alone, and according to this support thread, Microsoft is aware of this issue too.

Apparently, users who encounter this issue have the OS on an SSD and their apps and data on a separate drive. And this issue doesn’t happen when Windows 10 starts in Safe Mode.

As such, the workaround suggested by Microsoft at the moment is to sign in to Windows 10 using Safe Mode and move the apps and data to the same drive as the OS.

Of course, some users may not want to do this, so until the issue is resolved, another way is to go back to a pre-Anniversary Update installation. If you’ve installed the Anniversary Update within the last 10 days, this is easily done. Simply go to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery, and click on the Get Started button under 'Go back to an earlier build'. If you can’t even log into Windows 10, you can also uninstall the Anniversary Update using the Recovery Console or the Settings app from Safe Mode.
