The race to the bottom for smartphones this year has officially begun with Microsoft announcing its most affordable Lumia models to date.

Officially known as the Lumia 435 and 532, both smartphones are powered by Windows Phone 8.1 with Lumia Denim update which was first announced at IFA 2014. Not only are these devices entry-level, they are also available in both 3G single SIM and 3G Smart Dual SIM.

The Lumia 435 sports a 4-inch WVGA (800 x 480 pixels) LCD display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 dual-core 1.2GHz processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB internal storage space with microSD expansion up to 128GB, a removable 1,560mAh battery, and a 2-megapixel rear fixed focus camera with f/2.7 and 1/5-inch sensor size.

The Lumia 532 comes with slightly better specs; it has a 5-megapixel rear camera with f/2.4 and 1/4-inch sensor size, and runs on a quad-core version of the Snapdragon 200 chipset. The rest of its specs remain similar as the Lumia 435.

It is important to note that both models come with the standard suite of Microsoft apps and services, which include Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote), Outlook for email, Skype integration, HERE location services and up to 30GB free OneDrive cloud storage space.

Microsoft states that both phones will be rolling out to select countries in Europe, Asia-Pacific, India, the Middle East and Africa next month. The estimated pricing for the Lumia 435 and 532 are 69 euros (S$108) and 79 euros (S$124) respectively. Both prices are based on currency exchanges rates at time of publication and before taxes and subsidies.
