Microsoft has a new iOS app that uses AI to help you learn Chinese

In yet another move to show how AI can help in human progress, Microsoft has released on the Apple App Store a Chinese learning app called Microsoft Learn Chinese (really!)

Microsoft:

Have fun learning the most widely spoken language in the world! Designed for all levels of Chinese learners, this app focuses on the most exciting part of the language: speaking it. By exploring a wide variety of everyday scenarios, you become exposed to essential vocabulary and grammar structures, helping you to speak Mandarin the way natives do. Best of all, it’s entirely free!

Leveraging on Microsoft’s AI and speech recognition chops, the app touts a grading system that provides instant feedback and a virtual teacher that you can interact anytime. Apparently, the course material is designed by experienced teachers and aligns with the HSK Chinese proficiency standards.

Of course, the app in its current form isn't good enough to replace a human language teacher, and language learning apps and online courses aren't exactly a new thing. But it's also not difficult to see how given time AI can bring a quantum leap to such endeavors.
