Microsoft to Discontinue TechNet Subscription Service

Microsoft has announced plans to discontinue the TechNet Subscription service. Currently, it allows subscribers to try full version and beta software from Microsoft's extensive library, for an annual fee as low as US$199. However, this service will be retired by the end of August 2013.

In its place, the company will be introducing new services in the form of TechNet Evaluation Center, where its full featured software titles can be downloaded for testing. Users can also enjoy the online testing services of TechNet Virtual Labs, without the need for local software installation. The TechNet Forums will remain for technical support, and Microsoft Virtual Academy will provide training to shore up the technical knowledge of users.

Interested users can still purchase TechNet subscriptions before the end of 31 August 2013. In addition, Microsoft will continue to honor all existing subscriptions until they expire. For more information, please visit TechNet's site here.
