Microsoft and Xiaomi rumored to be considering an acquisition of BlackBerry

 

Rumors of BlackBerry being acquired by other companies have been going on for as long as we can remember and just recently, DigiTimes has something new to report.

According to DigiTimes, the recent corporate restructuring and return to profitability have painted BlackBerry as a target for acquisition by a number of companies including Microsoft and Xiaomi.

Microsoft is said to have approached investment companies to assess the possibility of taking over BlackBerry to strengthen its position in the enterprise mobile solution sector, scoop up its valuable patent portfolio in Internet of Vehicles (IoV), mobile platform and communication sectors.

Industry sources also suggest that Xiaomi is among a number of China-based phone makers to be potential investors. Chinese phone makers such as Lenovo and Huawei are planning to acquire BlackBerry with the aim of gaining a foothold in the business sectors in the U.S and Europe.
