Microsoft admits more work required for Windows 10 Mobile to be successful
Despite its marketing efforts in the past few years, Microsoft did not make much progress in the smartphone market. One senior executive from Microsoft shared his thoughts on what the company needs to get back into the game.
According to Microsoft's Chief Marketing Officer Chris Capossela, the company has to work harder to convince iPhone users to switch to Windows 10 Mobile. While he describes the current Lumia 950 flagship as a "solid" smartphone, he feels that the smartphone lineup lacks "some sort of spiritual equivalent" to the Surface lineup.
In other words, Microsoft needs to deliver a smartphone which does not only appeal to people who love Windows, but to a broader target market segment. Capossela also shared that Windows 10 Mobile has to attract the younger generation of consumers for the mobile platform to be successful.
"You need Snapchat, you need Instagram ... you need Uber, gotta have it. There's 10-15 apps that you just have to have on the phone," Capossela concurred.
Simply put, Microsoft has to get the hardware and software aspects right before consumers and developers will be attracted to the mobile platform. The two-horse race in the smartphone market means that Microsoft certainly has a lot to catch up.
