Michael Dell and investment firm Silver Lake Partners have completed their bid to buyout Dell, taking the company private for US24.9 billion. Dell shares will no longer be traded following the end of business today with existing shareholders receiving US$13.88 per share.

Dell has been trying to take his namesake company private since the beginning of the year, but has faced stiff opposition from shareholders, most notably, Dell investor Carl Icahn, who was outspoken in his belief that the deal undervalued the company.

Dell had been a publicly traded company since 1988.
