Mercedes-Benz will Offer Integration with Google Glass

Mercedes-Benz is currently in works with Google to ensure that its cars will be able to make use of the highly-anticipated Google Glass when it goes into production next year.

One feature that is being worked on is called "Door-to-Door Navigation". Users can input an address into their Google Glass and when they get into the car and plug their phones in, the destination address is automatically transferred to the in-car navigation system.

However, there is much work to be done yet mainly because Google Glass does not work on iOS (yet) while Mercedes-Benz' has yet to offer its Digital DriveStyle App to Android users. Currently, the feature is enabled through a complex series of connections between Google Glass, Mercedes-Benz' own servers and the in-car entertainment system.

Mercedes-Benz' North American R&D head, Johann Jungwirth said:

“This is, perhaps, not how we will accomplish it when we launch it as a product. As we are in talks with Google about making a direct connection to Glass work, but it is how our prototype works today.”

Jungwirth also said that iOS is still the predominant platform used by Mercedes-Benz owners, and that they plan on offering Android integration in the coming year.
