Meet AUDS, the ultimate nemesis of all drones
Three UK-based companies have upgraded their Anti-UAV Defense System (AUDS), enabling it to track and disable a drone up to 5km away. According to their press release, AUDS was actually launched in May this year; recently, it has been upgraded to detect an operational drone up to 5km away. AUDS uses an electronic scanning radar to detect a drone, and track it using infrared and daylight cameras. AUDS requires customized software for its operations.
To deliver the killing blow, AUDS is able to disable the drone by using radio signals that operate in the same frequencies as the “different licensed telemetry bands of commercial drones….” The radio spectrum used by drone operators is fairly narrow, so the manufacturers claim AUDS is a fairly safe system to operate in order to keep out unauthorized UAVs. With its new optical disruptor, AUDS is also able to disable the drone’s built-in camera so the drone’s operator will be flying blind. AUDS is the result of collaborative efforts of Blighter Surveillance Systems, Chess Dynamics and Enterprise Control Systems. The companies have emphasized the modular system of the AUDS, making it easy for deployment and scalability to meet different operating requirements.
