MediaTek's MT6795 is an 8-core SoC with 64-bit and 2K display support
MediaTek, a Taiwanese company best known for its mobile system-on-chip solutions found in many entry-level devices, has announced its latest flagship mobile SoC, the MT6795.
Besides being a 64-bit chip, the MT6795 also sports a true octa-core processor, capable of running at a speed of up to 2.2GHz, dual-channel LPDDR3 memory clocked at 933MHz, and support for LTE (Rel. 9, Category 4 FDD and TDD). Designed for high-end devices, the MT6795 also supports 120Hz displays (in other words, it’s capable of rendering content at 120 frames per second), creation of 480fps 1080p super-slow motion videos (playback at 1/16 speed), H.265 Ultra HD (4K2K) video recording and playback, as well as H.264 and VP9 UHD video playback. All in all, the new SoC is well placed to compete with the flagship offerings from other chipset makers, such as Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 801/805 and Samsung’s latest Exynos processors.
According to MediaTek, we should see MT6795-powered devices by the end of 2014.
