Measure your body fat with the TomTom Touch fitness tracker

The TomTom Touch fitness tracker with body composition tracking, AKA the end to "honey, do I look fat?" questions.

TomTom announced the new TomTom Touch today. This fitness tracker comes with an extra twist to one-up typical wellness monitoring aids. It introduces body composition analysis into the mix - the TomTom Touch can measure the percentage of body fat and muscle mass in your body, giving you a better understanding of workouts and diets are more impactful than other health-conscious alternatives.

The special sensors are found on the rear of the tracking devices.

The TomTom Touch utilizes a small sensor for analyzing electrical bio-impedance body fat. It's located next to the equally tiny optical heart rate sensor. They be found on the rear of the monitoring core, located in the center of the fitness band.

This doesn't mean that the TomTom Touch can replace scientifically accurate measurements of an individual's muscle mass and body fat percentage. However, the extra feature allows the user to have an idea about the changes happening to their bodies as they continue with an active lifestyle.

The fitness tracker also monitors other traditional parameters. It tracks sleep, steps taken, calories burned, and your all-day heart rate with the help of the said HRM above. It also has a panel of sports-related measurements, and it can track running, cycling, and gym workouts.

The device also connects to your smartphone, and you can view the numbers and progress via its proprietary TomTom MySports mobile app. It comes with a nice visual showing your body's composition in percentages. You can set goals and observe personal achievements for the TomTom Touch as well.

The device has an advertised battery life of five days before requiring a recharge. It is rated at IPX7, which means it provides some splash-proofing (that means you probably shouldn't take it for a swim). The OLED display on the device measures 5.58 x 22.38mm, and the fitness tracker weighs just a modest 10g. Charging is done via micro-USB cables.

You can pick up this newfangled device come the first week of November 2016, at a recommended retail price of S$239. You can find their official site here.
