MasterCard wants to replace passwords with selfies

At MWC 2016, MasterCard announced a new "Selfie Pay" app which it will be rolling out in 15 countries (unfortunately Singapore is not one of them yet), which will let you take a selfie to verify your identity when making online purchases. The app is smart enough to take into account physical depth and requires you to blink each time you use it, so it won't be fooled by a previously taken photo or video held up in front of the camera. There'll also be an option to use a fingerprint scanner if you prefer.

MasterCard’s Chief Product Security Officer Ajay Bhalla says the technology will be ubiquitous in five years and will be especially handy for people using phones without fingerprint scanners. MasterCard is reportedly also working on using heartbeat scans, iris scans, and voice authentication in lieu of traditional passwords as well.
