If you are not familiar with Massdrop, it is a website that specializes in group buys. Users indicate their interest in products and Massdrop negotiates and arranges with manufacturers to get discounted prices.

Because of Massdrop's popularity, they have collaborated with brands from time to time to create special Massdrop products for their community.

Headphones are especially popular with Massdrop users, and Massdrop has collaborated with brands such as Fostex and Hifiman to create special headphones just for Massdrop users. The Massdrop x Fostex TH-X00 is one example.

Yesterday, one of the most eagerly anticipated Massdrop collaborations was released. Massdrop worked with Sennheiser to create the HD 6XX, which is a pair of headphones based on the legendary HD 650, widely regarded to be one of the best headphones ever made.

Essentially, the HD 6XX is a more affordable version of the HD 650 in a different color. It comes in midnight blue instead of black, and it has the exact same drivers as the HD 650. Only 5,000 units will be offered to Massdrop users.

So while the regular Sennheiser HD 650 costs around US$350 (on Amazon), the HD 6XX's price starts at a much more affordable US$250. And if more than 50 users buy it, the price will drop to just US$200. That makes the HD 6XX incredible value.

Unsurprisingly then, the Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 6XX sold out within two hours of its launch. Massdrop's servers also encountered difficulty processing payment requests. I tried for over an hour and didn't have my payment accepted.

Fortunately,  there's a high chance Massdrop and Sennheiser will make the HD 6XX available again. So head over to Massdrop and indicate your interest by hitting the link below, and they'll send you an email notification when the product is relaunched.
