Manufacturers still struggling with the iPhone X's 3D sensor production

Although the iPhone X is set to ship on 3 November, Apple's manufacturing partners are still struggling to increase production of the device due to continuing issues with the components of the TrueDepth camera system.

According to Nikkei Asian Review, a source familiar with the production of the iPhone X said that manufacturing partners are still struggling to refine the 3D sensors, in particular the dot projector. The latest report mirrors that of the Wall Street Journal a few weeks ago which claimed that a pair of components - known internally as "Romeo" and "Juliet" - caused Apple to run into another production snag. Jeff Pu, an analyst with Taipei-based Yuanta Investment Consulting, also claimed that the "Romeo" component is holding back the mass production.

Despite these issues, Pu claimed that the iPhone X will enter mass production soon and shipment from China will begin in the third week of October. He revised his forecast of the volume of the iPhone X from 40 million to 36 million units. KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo wrote in September that Apple might not be able to meet consumer demand for the iPhone X until sometime in the first half of 2018.
