MacBooks shown some love: Apple updates the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display and MacBook Air

The new updates affect the 13 inch MacBook Pro, as well as the 11 and 13 inch versions of the MacBook Air.

Apple wants to remind people that they do make products other than phones and watches. They've done exactly that in a manner most people will take notice of; they've upgraded their MacBooks. To be precise, they've upgraded the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display as well as the 11 and 13 inch MacBook Air. They've also announced a new MacBook too!

For the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display, Apple has overhauled most of the major stuff. The model now sports Intel's latest fifth generation Core i5 and Core i7 processors, which are based on the company's new "Broadwell" architecture. These new processors also feature faster Intel Iris Graphics 6100 integrated graphics. Battery life has also reportedly been extended, with the device being able to last up to 10 hours now,

The biggest addition to the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display is Apple's new trackpad, which the company's calling the 'Force Touch'. The Force Touch trackpad is pressure sensitive and will respond to pokes and prods from fingers with haptic feedback. Apple's also coining the term 'Force Click' to go along with the Force Touch. Force Click is basically a fancy way of saying tap and hold. You tap once to select something and if you continue to hold your finger on the item, depending on what it is, a whole mess of options will open up, from word definition to address navigation to file preview. We admit, it sounds interesting and can't wait to try it out for ourselves.

The technology company's also upgraded the MacBook Air line. Both 11 and 13-inch versions of the MacBook Air will be sporting the latest Intel Broadwell processors too, with graphical processing power being upgraded to the Intel HD 6000. Though the MacBook Air won't get the new Force Touch trackpad, they do get new two Thunderbolt 2 ports, which are twice as fast as the older Thunderbolt ports found on older MacBook Air machines.

The new 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display and MacBook Air are already available for purchase on the Apple Store. The 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display has a starting price of S$1688 while the 11 inch MacBook Air starts from S$1188 and the 13 inch ones starting from S$1328.
