M1 puts up S$10/month roaming data passport for Rio Olympics 2016

M1 subscribers going to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, for the 2016 Summer Olympics events can breathe easier when it comes to their roaming data bills during the games.

Starting from now through September 2016, M1 will be doing a promotion for its Brazil Data Passport roaming data package. By paying a subscription fee of S$10 per month, M1 customers using overseas data while in Brazil will expend their local mobile data allotment instead. This also allows M1 subscribers to use roaming data at the same price of local mobile data.

This means that M1 users utilizing the promotional Brazil Data Passport will not incur overseas mobile data charges, even if they use up their entire data allotment for the month. Additional local data bundles that were separately purchased, such as Upsized Data, also benefit from the Brazil Data Passport subscription. Users will still be charged at local mobile data rates (at S$10.70 per GB) with the same monthly data bill cap of S$188.32. Of course, you’ll need to be on M1’s preferred network partner, and you actually need to be in Brazil.

Here’s the list of mobile and mobile broadband plans that are eligible for the Brazil Data Passport promotion. More information about M1’s Data Passport packages can be found here.

“With Brazil Data Passport, our athletes, officials and supporters can share the excitement and memories of the games with their loved ones and fans at home,” said Mr P. Subramaniam, Chief Marketing Officer, M1.

The 2016 Rio Summer Olympic Games will run from 5th August 2016, to 21st August 2016. The 2016 Rio Paralympic Games will be held from 7th September 2016 to 18th September 2016.
