M1 to Launch 4G LTE Service and New Mobile Plans on 15 September

M1 Limited (M1) today announced the launch of its nationwide 4G LTE service - the first in South East Asia. It will be made available from 15th September 2012, together with the new smartphone and mobile broadband service plans.

Users will be able to enjoy faster data access on their smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices, with theoretical download speeds of up to 75Mbps, and typical download speeds at fixed locations ranging from 6.9Mbps to 17.4Mbps. Previously, the typical download speed range at fixed location ranges from 0.9Mbps to 4.5Mbps.

With the new data bundles starting from 2GB per month, M1 claims that the majority of customers will not incur higher charges. This is based on its statistics that show 78% of smartphone users consume less than 2GB of mobile data per month, and 93% less than 5GB of mobile data per month.

Re-contracting M1 customers will be given an extra 1GB of complimentary data bundle on the new smartphone and mobile broadband plans. M1 customers can also enjoy 4G roaming services in Hong Kong with its partner, SmarTone Telecommunications Holdings Limited. More countries and operators will be added in the near future.

It is noteworthy to mention that M1's 4G LTE network has nationwide coverage, whereas SingTel's 4G LTE coverage at launch only covered 50%, and is still carrying out deployment. Islandwide rollout of SingTel's LTE service is expected to complete by early 2013. 4G LTE coverage will be extended to underpasses and tunnels in the future.

At launch, consumers can choose from a variety of 4G devices which include:

  • ASUS Transformer Pad TF300TL (an LTE version of the TF300)
  • HTC One XL
  • LG Optimus True HD LTE
  • Samsung Galaxy Note LTE
  • Samsung Galaxy S II LTE
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 LTE
  • Huawei USB modem E392
  • Huawei mobile Wi-Fi modem E589

If you want to have a hands-on with M1's 4G LTE service, you can do so at its flagship shop in Paragon from today. There will be a Live 4G demo-zone where you can test out the new 4G devices.
