Louis Vuitton isn’t new to making sleeves and cases for the iPhone. It’s just that, well, save for its iconic Monogram and Damier Graphic canvas (okay, craftsmanship too), LV’s “technical cases” aren’t exactly, in terms of both form and function, too different from those offered by boutique case makers like CalypsoCase, Vaja, or even premium luggage brand Rimowa, in which LVMH (owner of Louis Vuitton) is buying an 80% stake into.
But since LV’s Spring 2017 Read-to-Wear show at the Paris Fashion Week on Thursday, there’s something that got many people excited, even more so than what runway model Theresa Hayes was wearing.
And it is this:
Available in a variety of colors and prints, complete with metallic hinges, straps, and keyring attachments, this is, in short, an iPhone case that looks like a mini Petite Malle bag. The Petite Malle, by the way, is a highly coveted handbag (LV classifies it under ‘Rare & Exceptional’ on its site) introduced in 2014 by current creative director Nicolas Ghesquière for the French maison. With a starting price of S$7,000, if you think it kinda looks like a luxury trunk, that’s because it is inspired by LV’s malletier (i.e., trunk-maker) history.
There’s no word yet on the availability and price of this “Petite Petite Malle” (the cases shown also seem to be using the iPhone 6/6S, so maybe LV needs some time to tweak them for the 7?), but one thing’s for sure, this little number is destined to sell out fast.
