The Logitech G Pro might just be close to the perfect mouse for professional gamers

Logitech has announced the G Pro, a lightweight gaming mouse designed with professional gamers in mind. It combines the best elements of the popular G303 Daedalus Apex and the no-frills G100S, and the result might just be one of the most compelling mice we’ve seen.

When you think of gaming mice, you probably think of critters with a ton of buttons, adjustable weights, and pulsing LEDs. And you wouldn’t be wrong, but these features often border on superfluous, especially for professional gamers who prioritize things like tracking performance and ergonomics above all else.

Logitech had all this in mind when it designed the new G Pro, and it plucked the PMW3366 optical sensor – widely acknowledged as the best sensor on the market – from the G303 and put it inside a body that closely resembles the shape of the G100S.
The G Pro tracks from between 200 to 12,000 DPI, so although professional players usually favor lower DPIs, those of you who prefer higher sensitivities won’t feel short-changed.

Most professional players will also tell you that the weight of the mouse is one of the most important factors when it comes to picking a rodent, and the G Pro has explicitly been designed to be as light as possible. It weighs just 84.7g, and this is important to prevent fatigue over long hours of gaming and better facilitate fast swipes and quick motions.

There are a total of just six buttons. Other than the usual left and right click, DPI button, and scroll wheel, the only extras are two forward and back buttons on the left side. This isn’t an ambidextrous mouse, thanks to the placement of the two side buttons.

With that said, all the focus on austerity and performance doesn’t mean that this is a drab-looking mouse, and the G Pro still has an illuminated RGB logo on its back and accents on its sides. The colors and effects can be tweaked in the Logitech Gaming Software, but there’s no way to control both lighting zones independently.

Logitech says it designed the mouse in tandem with professional players, and the final product certainly looks like the effort paid off. Of course, the G Pro is still targeted at a relatively niche audience, and there are plenty of users who will prefer more feature-rich mice with more buttons, wireless capabilities, and fancier designs. But for those of you who wished for a mouse similar to the G303 without the awkward middle bulge, this is almost a dream come true.

The Logitech G Pro will cost US$69.99. It is available for pre-order now on Logitech’s website.
