Logitech acquires gaming headset maker Astro for US$85 million
Logitech has just announced that it has agreed to a deal to acquire gaming headset maker Astro Gaming for US$85 million in cash.
Logitech is arguably one of the most famous brands when it comes to PC peripherals such as keyboards, mice, and headphones. And in recent years, the company has made a substantial push to establish itself in the gaming arena.
For example, in 2014, the company updated its gaming keyboard range to include keyboards with its own proprietary Romer-G switch, which it claims is up to 25% more responsive than any other mechanical keyboard switch.
Astro Gaming is popular amongst gamers for its range of wired and wireless gaming headphones. However, it is most popular amongst console gamers as it is one of the few brands to make wireless gaming headphones that are compatible with consoles like the PS4 and Xbox One.
The acquisition of Astro Gaming makes sense as Logitech wants to gain a foothold in the console gaming market and become an overall leader in the gaming scene.
For now, there are no plans to shut down Astro Gaming and the company will continue to operate as it is. Astro Gaming products will also continue to sell as is.
