There are ergonomic chairs, and then there are gaming chairs. While the two are often conflated – gamers often sit for long hours so good posture and comfort is important – the two product categories can still diverge quite a bit when it comes to design philosophy and target audience.

Nevertheless, the gaming community has in recent years seen the rise of companies like DXRacer and Maxnomic, which offer ergonomic chairs with aggressive designs to appeal to gamers. But these chairs often come with a stiff price tag. Today, local startup Secretlab is looking to take on the gaming and office chair market with the launch of the Secretlab Throne, a racing-inspired ergonomic computer chair that promises not to burn too big of a hole in your wallet.

At just S$349, the Secretlab certainly delivers in the price department, especially when you consider that the DXRacer Formula series chairs – the only locally available alternative – retails for S$629. For an additional S$15, Secretlab will even assemble the chair for you. It comes in three colors:- spectre white, hot pink and aqua blue.

At first glance, the Secretlab Throne already appears to be quite plush and luxurious. It is made of quality PU leather and high-density cold foam for what the company says is an optimal combination of comfort and breathability. It also comes with several adjustment options and comfort-oriented features to help users find the best fit. The armrests are covered with a 2.5cm-thick layer of soft padded leather and can be adjusted both vertically and horizontally. The latter feature is lacking in many chairs today and should definitely come in handy for those who like to sit closer to their tables.

In addition, the Secretlab Throne’s full-height backrest can recline by 155° to accommodate a wide range of preferences. But even so, we don’t see you needing to use the full range of adjustability here unless your monitor is sitting on a ridiculously high pedestal. Height adjustment is handled by a pneumatic 100mm gas spring and the chair is rated for up to 100kg of weight.

The Secretlab Throne is backed by a 1.5-year warranty and is available for purchase today from Secretlab’s website. It will also be available at the following locations to view and purchase:-

  • Funan DigitaLife Mall – CH Computer Pte Ltd (#05-04)
  • Sim Lim Square – GamePro Shop (#05-46A)
  • B-Central 996 Bendemeer Road – Aftershock HQ (#03-01)

The Secretlab Throne will arrive at Aftershock HQ tomorrow (13 May) and at the other two locations on 15 May

From what we’ve seen so far, the Secretlab Throne certainly appears to be a cost-effective and quality alternative that has the potential to rival existing gaming chairs on the market. We’ll be getting a unit to review soon, so stay tuned for more details.
