Update: The LG X3 is now officially known as the LG Optimus 4X HD and is slated to be the successor to the Optimus 2X. The full specs of the quad-core smartphone matches up to what we've heard earlier, including an NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor confirmed with a clock speed of 1.5GHz. More details of its 4.7-inch display has been revealed, such as an IPS panel with a screen resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels.

Internally, you'll have 1GB of RAM with 16GB of internal storage. An 8-megapixel camera is also confirmed, alongside a 2150mAh battery packed inside an 8.9mm profile. More importantly, the LG Optimus 4X HD will be the only LG device with Google Android 4.0 from day one. We will be providing more hands-on updates of this quad-core smartphone from Barcelona next week. In the meantime, check out a quick round-up of the latest news related to MWC 2012 over here.

Get ready for more Android 4.0 smartphones powered by NVIDIA's Tegra 3 quad-core processor in 2012. In fact, we might see LG showcasing one such device in a month's time at Mobile World Congress 2012.

Currently known as the LG X3, the device will sport above average specifications to ensure that it keeps itself ahead in the competition. As mentioned earlier, we are looking at a quad-core processor, and its display size will measure 4.7-inches with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. More importantly, even with the bumped up dimensions, the device will reportedly have a thin profile, somewhere under nine millimeters.

With Android Ice Cream Sandwich fronting the software portion, it's odd that we are still looking at physical capacitive buttons for the X3. Putting that aside, the LG device has more tricks up its sleeves, including an 8-megapixel rear camera, 1.3-megapixel front camera and most importantly, a 2000mAh battery powering the unit. A 16GB internal storage will be provided, with microSD expandability for additional storage. And to top off the bells and whistles on this device, a trusted source informed PocketNow that NFC capabilities will be available on the X3.

Lastly, for those who prioritize cellular download speeds, the X3 reportedly comes with a HSPA downlink speed of 21Mbps. No word on whether there's an LTE version in the works, but it would be nice to have that option for our upcoming LTE network within the next few months.

According to PocketNow, the X3 is most likely available sometime in late spring or early summer, which means the latest launch period should be within Q3 2012.
