With an aim to change the e-book industry landscape, LG Display announced that it has started to mass produce plastic electronic paper display (EPD). Per LG’s claim, the plastic EPD is the first in the world. Designed to fit e-book readers, plastic EPD panels measure six inches and feature XGA display resolution (1024 x 768).

Employing a plastic substrate that is as thin as a protection film used on mobile phones (0.7mm), plastic EPD panels offer a paper-like reading experience. Additionally, they are remarkably light (14g) and very flexible. They can be bent at a range of 40 degrees from the center of screen.

Plastic EPDs will be supplied first to ODM companies that are based in China, whereas actual consumer products are slated to be released in Europe starting next month.
