LG to ship limited edition 23-karat gold Urbane Luxe smartwatch
LG’s latest collaboration with U.S. retail jewelry company REEDS Jewelers brings us the LG Watch Urbane Luxe. With its 23-karat gold frame, the luxury smartwatch’s bling is sturdier than 24-karat gold found in jewelry, but heavier than 18-karat gold found in traditional luxury-styled watches.
Besides being adorned in gold, the limited edition LG Watch Urbane Luxe has a leather band made from alligator skin. The leather had been worked on by 30 experienced leatherworkers, carefully crafted through a total of 50 separate steps. The smartwatch would be boxed in a piano-gloss lacquer case. The high gloss finishing has a very smooth texture and quality to the touch, and the overall style will have a classy vibe to the package. It is further accentuated with a stylized watch clasp found on most Cartier watches.
“Wearable devices shouldn’t be thought of as an extension of one’s smartphone but an extension of oneself,” said Chris Yie, vice president and head of marketing communications for LG Mobile Communications Company. “This blending of craftsmanship and technology is a natural evolution of the smartwatch, which is becoming more of a lifestyle accessory than a piece of hardware.”
Users interested in this luxury-styled smartwatch can pre-order from REEDS Jewlers website, or from any REEDS Jewelers shop. There are limited quantities of 500 pieces at US$1,200 (S$1,691) for one, and each Urbane Luxe comes with their unique serial number for authenticity. It will be available from October 2015 onwards, but it will be available for viewing from 4 to 9 September at IFA 2015, held in Berlin, Germany. The smartwatch will be on display with other LG mobile devices in Hall 18.
If 23-karat gold is a little excessive for you, there’s always the original LG Watch Urbane that comes without the karat. The original Android Wear device sports an all-metal frame which is also sleek, and both luxury and original editions share the same 1.3-inch Plastic-OLED display at 320 x 320 pixels.
