LG could be the exclusive supplier of batteries for the iPhone 9 next year.

Citing information from industry insiders, The Korea Economic Daily claims that LG Chem has signed an exclusive deal with Apple to supply batteries for the iPhone 9. This deal is significant as Apple is known to source from multiple suppliers for components.

"LG has invested hundred of billions of Korean won for related facilities and plans to start mass production from early next year," the Korean-language report quoted a source in the chemical industry as saying.

The LG battery for the iPhone 9 is said to be "L-shaped" as it is "bent" at the bottom. This new battery design might result in faster charging speeds and could potentially be used in this year's iPhone 8 too. LG Chem is also rumored to be supplying batteries for the Samsung Galaxy Note8.
