LG to release a metal-clad smartphone by end of the year, G4 to remain plastic
Unlike HTC and Samsung, LG's flagship smartphone may not sport a metallic chassis.
According to sources cited by ZDNet Korea, the costly and time-consuming nature of switching to computer precision control for manufacturing metal cases prevented LG from making a metal-clad G4. However, LG could have just enough time to deliver a metal-clad smartphone by the end of 2015. The model is rumored to be the G4 Note, LG's answer to the Samsung's Galaxy Note series.
Earlier this month, leaked press images reveal a slightly different design for the G4 with a brushed metallic rear. It remains to be seen whether the rear is actually made of metallic materials; the G3 also has a metallic-looking rear which is made of plastic.
LG apparently has high expectations for the G4 as it sets a 10-million sales target for the phone this year. The company is reportedly launching the G4 next month "to make a bigger splash".
