LG has a patent for a foldable smartphone
LG is the latest phone maker to be granted a patent for a foldable smartphone.
The U.S Patent and Trademark Office recently granted LG its patent application for the foldable smartphone which it filed in January 2015. LG's concept for a foldable phone appears to be simpler than what we've seen from other phone makers; the upper part of the display is folded. The image below shows the device in its unfolded state.
The Korea Herald reported a few days ago that LG may launch foldable smartphones in Q4 this year. Samsung is rumored to be launching its Galaxy X foldable phone in the first half of 2018. Microsoft and Nokia have recently been granted patents for their respective foldable devices as well.
