LG brings interactive 360-degree wallpapers to the LG G5

LG G5, equipped with the 360 Wallpaper.

LG announced their 360 Wallpaper feature for the LG G5, which allows users to set spherical images as the background image for their smartphones. The wallpaper is interactive, as it will move when the user moves the phone, or when they swipe the display.

Professionally-taken 360-degree images are already available on the LG SmartWorld app at no extra charge. There are currently 12 images up for grabs, with four new images added every month from May to November 2016.

Users can also use the VR-compatible LG 360 CAM to capture said spherical photos for their very own wallpapers. If you’re feeling particularly generous, the same captured photos can be uploaded to Google Street View, for the benefit of other travelers (and Google). LG believes that 360-degree photography is “still in its early stages”, and this new 360-degree wallpaper feature will help to “drive adoption of VR innovation in the mobile space”.
