4K displays in smartphones may not take off in 2016 as two major phone makers reportedly held back plans to offer such devices next year.

According to Korean publication iNews24, LG and Samsung have decided not to jump on the 4K bandwagon for smartphones next year as the benefits are deemed incremental. The two Korean companies are said to be focusing their efforts on improving the power efficiency and sunlight legibility of the existing display panels.

If the report is true, the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium will still be the world's first and only smartphone with 4K display although other content except videos and images will be displayed at 1080p or lower resolution.
