Lenovo Unveils Its New 5.5-inch Flagship Vibe Z Smartphone at CES 2014

Lenovo's smartphone division is quickly becoming one of its key contributors - last year, mobile devices accounted for 15% of Lenovo's revenue - and the company has wasted no time trying to improve on that number in 2014 with the unveiling of its new 5.5-inch flagship smartphone, the Vibe Z.

Sporting a 5.5-inch 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution display, the Vibe Z is Lenovo's first LTE-enabled smartphone, and utilizes a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with 2GB RAM. It uses the same 13MP camera module as its predecessor, the K900, which includes an f/1.8 aperture lens and dual LED flash, but also includes an improved front camera module, with a 5MP wide-angle lens, designed to take better selfies with more people in the shot. The phone is available in silver or 'titanium black', with both models sporting a laser-etched 'fabric-like' polycarbonate finish.

According to Lenovo's Director of Launch Marketing, Keith Liu, the Vibe name was chosen to resonate with people's individual personality - their vibrancy if you will. The 'Vibe' brand is planned to become an ongoing brand for Lenovo's premium smartphone range, and Lenovo hopes that it will become synonymous with Lenovo's smartphones, much like how the Yoga branding has become so recognizable for Lenovo's consumer notebook division.

The Vibe Z will be available in 25 countries around the world for US$549. Unfortunately, Singapore is not one of them right now (Malaysia however, is), although that may change in future.
