Lenovo Bets on Multimode Computing with Yoga 2, Miix 2 and Horizon 2

Lenovo has just revealed a slew of multimode products that are expected to lead the charge for consumer dollars in 2014. Among them are the Miix 2, Yoga 2 and Horizon 2. As you can tell from their names, these machines are second generation models , which means they're faster, better, and generally improved all-around.

Lenovo Yoga 2 (11.6-inch and 13.3-inch)

Lenovo has recently ditched the Ideapad moniker for their products, which means each product line can have several variants. In the Yoga line of products, we've already seen the premium and very competitively priced 13.3-inch Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro, a follow-up to last year's Lenovo Ideapad Yoga. The just revealed Lenovo Yoga 2 however, is an even more affordable follow-up to last year's Yoga, as it will sport a mechanical HDD instead of a faster SSDs.

The Yoga 2 will come in two display sizes -- 11-inches and 13-inches -- both of which are able to flex and bend into the four modes that the original Yoga and Yoga 2 Pro are capable of. The machines will feature identical form factors and build, but take note that the 17.2mm, thick 11-inch variant will feature an Intel Pentium processor (up to quad-core), while the 17.3mm thick, 13-inch Yoga 2 will sport a regular Intel Core U-series processor for Ultrabooks.

The 11-inch Yoga 2 will also ship with a HD (1366 x 758p) display instead of a FHD (1920 x 1080p) display like the one found on the 13-inch Lenovo Yoga 2. Another core difference between the two machines, is that the 11-inch Yoga 2 will only have up to 4GB of RAM while the 13-inch Yoga 2 is able to accept up to 8GB of RAM. Both machines will come with 500 GB storage, but the 13-inch Lenovo Yoga 2 comes with an option for a 500GB SSHD.

Lenovo Miix 2 (10-inch and 11-inch)

Unlike the Yoga notebooks which are primarily notebooks that convert into tablets, the Miix 2 starts out as a tablet. It comes with a detachable Accutype keyboard dock, which the Miix 2 magnetically attaches to, allowing users to switch easily between tablet, laptop and stand mode.

The new Miix 2 machines also come in two different sizes, with each size sporting a different class processor. Take note that the smaller 10-inch tablet comes with a quad-core Intel Atom processor, while the slightly larger 11-inch Miix 2 comes with a regular Intel Core U-series (up to Intel Core i5) processor.

The smaller Miix 2 also has a 128GB integrated eMMC storage, while the larger 11-inch Miix 2 has a better, faster, 128GB integrated SSD. However, both machines have microSD support of up to 32GB should users require additional storage capacity.

Lenovo Horizon 2

If for some reason you didn't buy the original Lenovo Horizon table PC, Lenovo hopes that the 27-inch Horizon 2 will be able to convince you to get one. The new Horizon 2 has a brand new design, and features a cut-aluminum rear casing, which gives it a premium look, and maintain a svelte 19.5mm figure that lets it fit anywhere in your home. Like the original Horizon, the Horizon 2 is able to fold flat, and comes with gaming accessories like the e-dice, joystick and strikers, so users can enjoy the touch enabled multi-user games pre-installed into the machine.

And as expected, the Horizon 2 will come with the latest fourth generation Intel Core i7 processor, up to 8GB of RAM a 500GB HDD (or 500GB hybrid SSHD with an 8GB SSD cache) and the latest NVIDIA GeForce graphics that enables you to tackle both work and play with ease.

The Horizon 2 will come with a standard full HD (1920 x 1080p) display, but also offers users the option for a much sharper QHD (2560 x 1440p) display as well. Like the original Horizon, the Horizon 2 is also able to function unplugged, thanks to its integrated battery which offers up to 4 hours of battery life.
