Leaked: Google's Upcoming Fitness Tracking Platform, Google Fit to be Launched Soon

According to Forbes, Google plans to launch Google Fit, a health and fitness tracking platform at its upcoming Google I/O conference, which will take place later this month.

The Google Fit service will supposedly be launched as a set of application programming interfaces (APIs) for developers. Using these APIs, the developers will be able to build applications that will allow a range of health and fitness trackers to share their aggregated data. At the same time, the company is expected to announce partnerships with manufacturers of these devices during the conference. It is unclear if "Google Fit will be built into an upcoming version of Android, or released as a standalone app for users to download."

Regardless, Google Fit is seen as a direct challenge to Apple's Healthkit platform that was recently announced at the latter's WWDC. Another industrial heavyweight, Samsung has also showcased its health and fitness data aggregation service known as Samsung Architecture Multimodal Interactions (S.A.M.I.). The Google I/O conference is scheduled to take place from 25 to 26 June.
