LaCie Announes New Thunderbolt 2 Storage Devices Aimed at Enabling 4K Post-Production

LaCie has just announced three new Thunderbolt 2 devices at the NAB Show in Las Vegas, a B2B media and entertainment show. The new devices support the latest Thunderbolt 2 and are targeted at media professionals who demand speed and bandwidth for post-processing 4K videos.

First up is the 8big Rack Thunderbolt 2, the company's first Thunderbolt 2 rackmount storage. It can hold up to eight Seagate 7200rpm 6TB drives for a maximum capacity of 48TB. It can also deliver a maximum throughput of up to 1330MB/s.

The Lacie 5big.

Next is the new 5big, which has been updated to support Thunderbolt 2 and hardware RAID 5. LaCie claims that speeds of up to 1050MB/s is possible with five Seagate 7200rpm 6TB drives and that it is also the most compact 30TB storage system in the world.

The Lacie 2big.

Last but not least, LaCie also announced the new 2-bay 2big, which a claimed maximum speed of 420MB/s with two Seagate 7200rpm 6TB drives. Support for Thunderbolt 2 aside, it also features USB 3.0 connectivity so that it can be used with a variety of machines.
