Following on the release of Intel’s Skylake processors and comprehensive slate of Z170 motherboards, it’s no surprise that memory manufacturers are now announcing compatible DDR4 memory kits to go with the new hardware. Intel’s Z170 chipset will support only DDR4 and DDR3L memory modules, which means that existing DDR3 kits for the Z97 chipset cannot be reused due to their higher operating voltage.

Kingston has now announced dual-channel 8GB and 16GB HyperX DDR4 kits for the new Z170 platform. The new kits are available in 2133MHz, 2400MHz and 2666MHz frequencies and will join existing Fury DDR4 kits that are available in capacities up to 64GB.

The less aggressive frequencies also allow for lower latencies and better timings. For instance, the 2x8GB kit runs at 15-17-17. In comparison, the new 3600MHz Ripjaws V kit from G.Skill runs at 17-18-18.

The new HyperX Fury modules operate at just 1.2V, taking full advantage of the lower operating voltage of DDR4 memory to enable higher frequencies at lower voltages.

According to Kingston, they will also support automatic overclocking, which allows the modules to boot up at their rated speeds by simply installing them on your motherboard. It claims that there is no need to enter the BIOS to make any adjustments.

In addition, the HyperX Fury DDR4 kits feature low-profile 34mm heatspreaders for better compatibility with larger CPU coolers. And in typical Fury style, the design is asymmetrical, with a black PCB to match the color theme on most systems.

All new Z170 motherboards from ASUS, Gigabyte and MSI will work with these new DDR4 kits.
