In light of the recent attack of the Flashback malware (also known as Flashfake) on systems running Apple’s Mac OS X, the folks at the security software company Kaspersky Lab declared that ‘Mac OS X invulnerability is a myth’.

While Kaspersky Lab is uncertain who’s behind Flashback, the firm recognizes the fact that malware for Mac OS has been there for years. But because of the significant increase in number of users of Mac OS-based systems, it’s only recently that cybercriminals have started to take advantage of the situation.

Kaspersky Lab added that Flashback infections have plunged to around 30,000, much lower than the almost 700,000 who were affected last April 6. However, the security firm recommended that Mac users should still use anti-malware software, as cybercriminals will continue to release new forms of threats.

For Mac users who suspect that their system is infected by the Flashback malware, they may visit www.flashbackcheck.com for verification and use the Kaspersky Flashfake Removal Tool to disinfect the system. Security software firm Symantec has put up its own scanning and removal tool online as well.

On the other hand, Apple has released software solutions against the malware.
