Kanye West Says Apple Bought Beats Only Because Samsung Worked with Jay-Z
Say what you want about Kanye West, but the fact is that this man rose from relative obscurity to being one of the top rappers and musician today in a short span of less than 10 years. So yes, the man knows a thing or two about successful collaborations and business.
At the Cannes Lions Festival, Kanye shared some of his thoughts with regards to the recent deal between Apple and Beats. According to West, who is a fan of Apple and Steve Jobs, the deal would not have happened if not for the collaboration between Samsung and Jay-Z last year.
"There would have been no Beats deal without the Samsung deal. It showed the number one company the importance of connecting with culture," West said. In that deal, the first million users of Samsung's Galaxy S III, Galaxy S4 and Note II could download Jay-Z's latest album 72 hours before its official release.
West then said Apple's acquisition of Beats is their way of getting connected with culture, something that he thinks the company has lost since Job's passing.
West also took a dig at Samsung and said, "The reason I said I didn't like Samsung particularly is because throughout my entire life, because of how my parents raised me, I have to work with the number one. Samsung is not quite Apple, but it showed that Jimmy and Dre would be able to connect with the number one influencers."
