JBL makes their latest speakers light

JBL Pulse 2, all lighted up.

More portable music choices mean better variety in terms of sound and looks. JBL, even with various portable audio products already out, is here to tempt us with two new additions: the JBL Pulse 2, and the JBL Clip+.

JBL Pulse 2, with app compatibility via JBL Connect.

If you’d like to have your music illuminated with color, JBL has a pretty neat version of that. The JBL Pulse 2 not only plays great audio (at a frequency response of 85 – 20,000Hz), but it is also equipped with an impressive JBL Prism, a display that lights up in sync to your tunes. The Pulse 2 has a 6,000mAh battery capacity, and it promises 10 hours of playback – that’s with the lights active. It connects wirelessly using Bluetooth 4.1. This speaker is splash-proof, despite its showy exterior.

The JBL Pulse 2’s light show is customizable too, via a built-in JBL Prism color sensor lens - simply get your chosen color by pointing and shooting it. This speaker also works with the JBL Connect app, allowing you to link multiple JBL speakers with this one for enhanced audio, if the double 45mm transducers aren’t enough for you. It can be a little big for it to be easily portable, since the Pulse 2 measures 84.2 x 194.4 x 84.2mm and it weighs 775g.

JBL Clip+, at a mere 140g.

For something more personal, there’s the JBL Clip+. This 150g speaker is splash-proof like its cousin above too, and its small size commands a modest 5 hour playback. It comes with its own carabineer for hooking onto your belongings, making it a great companion for hikes. It uses a 40mm transducer, and it has a frequency response of 160 - 20,000Hz.

While the Clip+ has Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity, you can actually opt to use the 3.5mm audio cable for playback. You can also daisy-chain another Clip+ to your first for louder playback too.

The JBL Pulse 2 and Clip+ will be available at S$339 and S$109 respectively. They will retail next week (or the week after), in major electronic stores (Challenger, Newstead Technologies, Courts, Gain City, Challenger, Song Brothers) as well as via online retailers (Lazada, Qoo10, Shopee).
