Iris scanner and face recognition to work faster on the Galaxy S9?

With the debut of Face ID on the iPhone X, Samsung is said to be focusing its efforts on improving the iris scanner and facial recognition feature on the Galaxy S9.

Korean media site ETNews claims that Samsung is trying to match Apple's Face ID with software enhancements since the Galaxy S9 will be using the same iris scanner and front camera modules as the Galaxy S8. There could also be "new add-ons through software apps".

It's too early to judge whether Samsung would catch up with Apple's Face ID, but KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes it will take up to two and a half years for the competition to replicate the functionality and user experience delivered by the TrueDepth Camera of the iPhone X.
