The iPhone 7 may not sell as well as the iPhone 6s

KGI securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo may have revised his earlier predictions about the iPhone 7, but he still believes that the sales of the iPhone 7 by the end of the year will not exceed that of the iPhone 6s last year.

In a research note released to AppleInsider, Kuo shared that he has revised his earlier estimates of iPhone 7 sales from 65 million to between 70 and 75 million units. The recall or replacement programme of the Galaxy Note7 and the dual-camera module of the iPhone 7 Plus are cited as the two factors for the increase in sales estimates.

However, Kuo insists that "artificial scarcity" is the reason behind the stock shortages faced by telcos and retail shops worldwide. In addition, a larger number of launch countries in the first wave this year could lead to depleted inventories. Apple might also be facing low yields on the jet black models, which might explain the low stocks.

With Apple not releasing the first weekend sales numbers for the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, investors have to rely on unofficial sources to gauge the company's performance.
