iPad mini to Come with $200-250 Price Tag in October?

Rumors of the upcoming Apple iPad mini started making its round quite some time back and it seems like the interest in the product has been revived. Apple watcher iMore reports that the company is indeed preparing a smaller version of 9.7-inch iPad iterations and that it is set for launch in October, priced between US$200 and US$250. Previous reports point to 7.1- and 7.85-inch form factors; according to iMore, the scaled-down 7.85-inch tablet will feature a display resolution of 2,048 x 1,536 pixels, one that is identical to the panel on Apple’s new iPad. This would put its pixel density at around 326 ppi, the same as the iPhone 4S's retina display and higher than the new iPad's 264 ppi screen.

If these reports are accurate, the iPad mini's competitive price puts new and existing players like Amazon and Google into jeopardy, given that Amazon is prepping to release  7- and 9-inch Kindle Fire tablets and Google is reportedly pricing its upcoming 7-inch Nexus tablet at US$199.
