Intel's New 2-in-1 Tablets Could Revolutionize Classroom Learning

At Intel's Global Solutions Summit today, the chip maker showcased new tablet devices aimed at the education sector that could revolutionize learning for millions of students worldwide.

The Android 4.2-based Intel Education Tablet is a 10-inch table powered by a dual-core Intel Atom Z2520 1.2GHz processor, while the Windows 8.1-powered Classmate PC is a 10-inch tablet with a removable keyboard dock powered by an Intel Celeron N2806 processor. Both devices are IP51 rated, giving them good resistance against dust and a small degree of protection against water - limited mostly to splashes and rainwater. Both are also shock proof tested for drops up to 70cm.

While the tablets themselves may not seem that revolutionary, the real power of each device lies in its compatible accessories and software tools. Both tablets will come with the integrated Intel Education Software suite, which aims at making classroom lessons more engaging, and is equipped with an e-Reader, science exploration and data analysis application, painting tools and accessories. To complement the software, both tablets can be equipped with a snap-on magnifier lens, that turns the rear camera into a high definition microscope and a plug-in thermal probe, that utilizes the earphone jack.

Intel has already selected a number of distribution partners for APAC to offer the tablets to schools in Australia, Pakistan, India, Thailand and the Philippines with more countries planning to be added to the list soon.

While these tablets are aimed at the education sector, Intel says it will also be offering the full software and accessories packages to its channel partners. If you're interested in using a tablet for scientific pursuits, this could be just what you're looking for, so be on the look out for similar tablets from Intel's partners soon.
