Intel CEO shows off Quark-based Intel Curie wristband at IDF Shenzhen 2015
At IDF Shenzhen 2015, Intel CEO Brian Krzanich showcased the Intel Curie. This Quark-based module is the company’s low-power, 32-bit computing platform that is the size of a button. According to Intel, it can be operated for long periods of time with a coin-sized battery as the Intel Curie is extremely power efficient. It is targeted at companies looking to develop wearable technology solutions.
During his demonstration, Intel CEO was seen controlling a group of spider robots using an Intel Curie-powered wristband. The Intel Curie platform houses a 6-axis combo sensor with accelerometer and gyroscope, and allows for tracking of limb gestures. In addition, it also contains a low-energy Bluetooth radio, DSP sensor hub and battery charging circuitry. Although CEO Brian Krzanich’s demonstration was rather rudimentary, this small step will herald big changes to come for wearable technology, so much so that Intel has opined that the Intel Curie platform is the perfect launchpad for companies, who aren’t traditionally associated with the tech industry, to come up with their own wearable tech products!
