Intel Announces 4th Generation Intel Core vPro Enterprise Platform

Intel has announced their fourth generation Intel Core vPro processors that will drive enterprise solutions. These chips combined the unique features of the fourth generation Intel Core chips with Intel vPro technology, making them ideal for business-grade work environments.

As they are targeted at enterprise users, the new chips offer embedded security features that include enhanced device protection during its boot up process, automatic data encryption. In the event the device goes missing, the chips support remote lockdown of their hard drives to prevent sensitive data from falling into the wrong hands. In addition, the new platform will power devices with support for McAfee's endpoint security management, which offers protection even when the devices are powered down.

Besides offering enhanced security features, the new chips are also aimed at improving the end-user experience. The Intel Core vPro platform-based devices will support Intel Pro WiDi. This is the enterprise version of the company's WiDi wireless display technology. It will enable the securing streaming of video and audio content to audio-visual equipment that are Intel Pro WiDi-enabled. At a closed session meeting with local media, Intel Business Development Director (APAC region) Ravichandran R said that they are in talks with projector equipment manufacturers to roll out Intel Pro WiDi capable wares. For starters, the projectors will come equipped with display adapters, and later versions will have integrated hardware to support Intel Pro WiDi.

In addition to the vPro U and Y series of processors, the Intel Atom Z3000 series chips, for powering business tablets, and the Intel SSD Pro 1500 series were also introduced. The latter are the first Intel SSDs with support for automatic self-encryption, as well as remote password reset. With such new offerings, it is evident the chip manufacturer has been improving the overall user experience for computing. In fact, Mr. Prakash Mallya, the country manager for sales and marketing, Intel Malaysia and Singapore, reminded us how the Intel Centrino processors made PCMCIA network cards for notebooks obsolete, and enabled users to connect their Centrino devices to Wi-Fi networks without the need for additional hardware.

The reduced dependency for third party wares is also extended to the security realm as Intel embeds security features into computing hardware. The introduction of Intel WiDi Pro technology, and its adoption by display equipment manufacturers, will definitely make video and audio presentations more seamless. For a start, the need to source for a connectivity cable to the display equipment is eliminated. As a note to our readers, Intel mentioned at IDF13 that it envisions a future where there will be 7 billion connected mobile platforms. However, in order to fulfill this grand vision, the company aims to build an ecosystem that allows its partners to build products and services that will empower end-users to function at that level. As the undisputed leader in the semiconductor industry, it doesn't hurt for Intel to dream big.
