The neighborhood ghoul wasn’t the only one getting busy on Halloween. Instagram reportedly used the opportunity to test out a new feature called “Best Videos”, a curated video channel that was stocked with Halloween-themed Instagram videos to fit the occasion.

The videos were paired with a no-nonsense headline: “Watch Halloween’s best videos”, and included clips of people trick-or-treating, singing, and basically doing whatever it is people do on Halloween.

According to Wired, Instagram let the channel run for 24 hours and continued updating it throughout. A live curation team went through video submissions with the hashtag #IGHalloween and posted their selections to the channel.

Unsurprisingly, the trial run was confined to US users only. However, given Instagram’s efforts to become a more effective service for discovering new and trending content – its overhauled Explore page for example – it seems likely that we will see an expanded rollout sooner rather than later.

Twitter and Snapchat already have Moments and Snapchat Live to help users stay updated with trending content, and it was probably only a matter of time before Instagram joined the crowd. “Best Videos” is Instagram’s response, and it will be used as a way for Instagram to surface content on live events like holidays and breaking news.
